South Granville BIA Community Placemaking Grant

Are you a creative with a great idea, talent, or special skill? The SGBIA would love to hear from you!    

Now, more than ever, people need a sense of togetherness and community. We wish to build our plazas into welcoming public spaces that are essential to the people who visit and live in South Granville. SGBIA would like to support you in hosting a free, public, arts/cultural/community event that contributes to the magnetism of our public space. 

Placemaking broadly refers to a collaborative process by which the community shapes and programs the public realm to bring meaning, identity, and shared value.

The funding:
Up to $500 in grant funds will be provided to each selected group to be spent between April 1 and October 2024. The funding will be directed towards engagement, implementation, and programming. 

 

Criteria of the activation/event/showcase:

  • Free of charge, or possibly cost of materials.

  • Event takes place on the plazas between May 1, 2024 - October 30, 2024.

  • Demonstrates inclusive, accessible and engagement of community members from diverse backgrounds.

  • Demonstrates alignment with the SGBIA mandate of Elevated Experiences.

  • Project shows a realistic estimate of resources needed.

 

Post event Deliverables: 

  • 5 photos of the event.

  • Post-event summary within 4 weeks of event completion (number of participants, feedback, etc.).

 

Examples of programming we’d love to see:

  • Free events/lessons such as yoga, painting, stitching

  • Educational Experiences 

  • Talent showcase of art, plants, music etc. 

  • Family-friendly activities

Placemaking is meant to:

  • Inspire people to collectively reimagine and reinvent public spaces.

  • Facilitate physical improvements in public areas.

  • Promote social programming to strengthen connections between people and places.

What is your grand idea? How would you use up to $500 for an innovative community project on the plaza? This program aims to activate the plazas from May - September, 2024.

Who can apply:

  • Individuals/Residents of South Granville

  • Businesses

  • Not for profits

Ineligible projects:

  • Political/lobbying affiliated

  • Faith based programs

  • Multi-level marketing
