For many years a modest two storey building on the north west corner of Broadway and Granville was home to Broadway Shoes. But few people knew that the artist Emily Carr had set up her studio on the second floor in 1912 after returning to Vancouver from her two years in France.

I absolutely LOVE these old photos of Vancouver, particularly when the exact location description accompanies the pic so I can visualize the space. Thanks for these!
more to come!
rumor has it that there were murals painted on the walls of the studio. Wonder what they looked like and I wonder if the crew that demolished the building had any idea what they were destroying!
