The splendid apartment building on the south west corner of 14th and Granville might seem just a little bit familiar to some as it has a twin on east side of the city. It was J.C. Marshall who commissioned the firm of Leibert and Braughton to design the Crescent Apartments at 14th. Avenue, their work proved popular as the same design was used again that year for the Toronto House Apartments (later the Astoria Hotel) on East Hastings for a Mr. Wallace.

My father-in-law purchased Cresent Court in about 1950-1955. I believe he purchased it from a lawyer who was from an old Vancouver family — the Lando family. My former wife inherited it after her father died in 1966. She/we managed the building until she sold it in about 1974-1975 — I think to a Mr. Fanning. I once had the original Architectural drawings — they may still be amongst my old records. I see that Piggly Wiggly occupies the main floor in the accompanying photo, but I recall that it was occupied by a Delicatessen during the late 1930s untill the mid or late 1940s. During the late 1960s it was occupied by Porte’s Pharmacy who later moved to middle of the next block and later became Shoppers. After Porte’s Pharmacy moved out, I believe the Bau Xi Art Gallery was established and moved in.
