Uno Langmann’s collection includes 15,000 historic photos, rarely seen in public.
VANCOUVER — It’s a busy time at Uno Langmann’s antique gallery on Granville Street [South Granville]. Several paintings from an estate in Edmonton have come in and have to be unpacked, along with paintings from Europe and California.
Langmann is 76, and jokes that a sore back has cut a couple of inches off his six-foot-six frame. But the sore back is forgotten as he starts showing off the 2,000 paintings in his shop.
He almost bounces over to The Bridge, a lovely Frank Brangwyn painting from the early 20th century he has on sale for $18,500.
“It came from an estate out by UBC,” he relates. “He’s a very important English painter. If you don’t know Brangwyn I can give you a couple of books — I have about 10 of them.”
The 10 books on Brangwyn are part of a 15,000-volume reference library. Langmann makes good use of it, because there are a dizzying array of antiques in his store and personal collection. […]
