My mother deserves to win this prize pack because despite my many faults and struggles, she is always encouraging me and never gives up, even when I am about to. As children she was always making birthdays special and every holiday was celebrated in some why despite limited time or resources. My mother makes everyone around her feel special and she never spoils herself, so it is her turn!

My mother's name was Sigrid and she was a force to be reckoned with. She spoke Norwegian until she entered school, was an artist who was told blue and green should never be seen, a mother who instilled strong values in her two children and a widow at the age of forty-four. At a time when widows could not even own a credit card, she somehow gave herself wings and forged a new path for herself. She became the owner of a small art gallery and framing shop in Burlington, Ontario. She believed in her children and believed we could do anything we set our minds to. My brother became a journalist (The Province Newspaper) and after being a stay at home mother for many years, I went back to university and eventually became a Psychotherapist.

I can tell you, my mother would have championed the owners of the small shops on South Granville. It's where she used to shop. She championed my children and as you can imagine, was loved and adored by her family. By example she gave us all wings. Even though my mother isn't physically with us any more, she is honoured and remembered on Mother's Day and all the other special days of the year. You are still with us in our hearts Mom... the place where love resides.

I will never forget the advice and all of the unconditional love my mother gave me. I miss her every day and hope to see her again one day. Though God took my mom away at a young age, I know she is in heaven where she deserves to be. She taught me that life is what you make of it. The decisions that you choose to make- shape the kind of person you want to be. My mom taught me to be brave and face my fears if possible, she taught me to stand up for myself when I felt like I was losing balance, and she taught me to believe in myself no matter what because she never stopped believing in me. She taught me to surround myself with happy, positive people. She told me I was beautiful and passionate. I pray for her every day and tell her how much I miss her.
I am spending my mother's day with a different mother this year, my mother-in-law, who though has the same birthday as my own mom, is a completely different person. I know she means well. By winning a prize I can share something with her that I would have loved to share with my mother in heaven.

My dad died suddenly in 2003 and that time was very tough for my family. Through all the hard times, my mom was always there for me and my sister. She had to work 2 extra jobs to pay the bills and made sure that we had everything we need to finish university. She taught me and my siter to be brave, work hard and love everyone around us-because you never know when they will be gone. Til this day, my mom is still working the extra jobs because her car is on it's last days and she is saving up to buy a new one. I hope I can win her a nice prize because she truly deserves it!

My mother was born in a small prairie town in Alberta early in the 1900's. As the youngest of 12 children (5 who subsequently died of childhood diseases), she learned to be strong and very organized. This proved to be valuable when the first of many disasters hit the family; the first being the drought and famine in the 1930's where farmers were particularly hit hard and secondly, when her mother died when my Mom was just 13. All of her older sisters had married and left home so Mom had to rely on a good friend, Common Sense. The men in the family, including her father, were very busy with their farming chores, which in those days reaped few rewards. Mom was educated in a small, one-room elementary school in the middle of hectares of ranches. She tells us that when she reached Grade 9, she was the only one studying that curriculum. In the severe winters, transportation was by horse (on horseback or in a "one-horse open sleigh"). This was not luxurious travel, but a necessity at the time. For her senior high school years, Mom had to board out at a woman's house in exchange for housework in the little neighbouring town many miles away as there was no means of transportation back and forth to the farm. Somehow, Mom managed to go on to post-secondary education (the only one in her family to do so) and studied to become a nurse. This was a very good occupation for her as the many life lessons she had learned along the way prepared her for nurturing others. Mom is now in her late 80's, very healthy, and one of the loveliest women I have ever met as well as my best friend. She has always given so much to others, especially her family, so I feel that she deserves to win a lovely prize.

I lost my mom suddenly when I was 19 from a heart attack. I realize now as an adult and a mother myself just how much she really did for my siblings and I. Unfortunately I did not appreciate her love, support and basically how much of her life she devoted to me near as much as I should have back then.

Mothers day is such a bittersweet day for me. Not having my own mom to share it with but now being the most incredible mom to my 2 kids. I do however, have a fantastic mother in law who is as close I could ever get to having my own mom still with me :)

I hope everyone takes the time to celebrate their moms every, single day and not just this Sunday. I would do anything to be able to pick the phone and hear her voice.
