EAT YOUR LUNCH OUT: 9 LUNCH SPOTS IN SOUTH GRANVILLE
24TH OCTOBER 2016
Sandwiched between breakfast (the alleged “most important meal of the day”) and dinner (the meal that seems to get all the attention), there’s no good reason to overlook lunch.
Lunch can be the midday bright spot in the workday, or where you linger on a day off. From where to settle in for a marathon chat sesh with the ladies who lunch, to handy spots for quick bites, we’re exploring lunch of all kinds, all around Vancouver.
Here are 9 restaurants serving up great lunchtime eats in Vancouver’s South Granville neighbourhood.
One of South Granville’s most elegant restaurants, West specializes in modern regional cuisine, using top-quality seasonal ingredients and the flavours of the Pacific Northwest in exciting, refined contemporary presentations. For lunch West offers a prix fixe option for a three-course meal, as well as a robust a la carte selection. Lunch is served 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.
Address: 2881 Granville Street, Vancouver
Once known cheekily as the “fallback plan” when you couldn’t get into Vij’s original Vancouver restaurant, Rangoli is celebrated chef and restaurateur Vikram Vij’s casual eat-in or to-go outpost. No longer the little next-door sibling of Vij’s, which moved to a new location, this market-restaurant hybrid is open 11 am to 10 pm every day, and has a menu of affordable eats, from samosas and curries to heartier, meatier fare.
Address: 1488 West 11th Avenue, Vancouver
Serving lunch Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 am to 3 pm, Stable House is one of Vancouver’s best-kept culinary secrets. This chic wine bistro has a simple lunch menu of French classics, including salads, savoury crepes, soups, and terrines. We’re also big fans of their charcuterie boards.
Address: 1520 West 13th Avenue, Vancouver
It’s pretty simple at Liquids & Solids: You got your liquids (aka soups) and your solids (aka sandwiches and salads). The West Broadway outpost of L&S is open 9 am to 5 pm weekdays, so you can easily come by their café to get your lunch on.
Address: 1550 West Broadway, Vancouver
Among the restaurants credited with redefining the scope of meat-free dining experiences in Vancouver in the last decade, Heirloom open up at 9 am daily, and offers their brunch/lunch menu from then until 3:45 pm. Their daytime menu boasts an array of plant-based meals, including vegetarian scramble, Southern-inspired omelettes, Eggs Benedict, and French toast.
Address: 1509 West 12th Avenue, Vancouver
A favourite venue for those in search of the flavours of New Orleans (and live music some nights) Ouisi Bistro opens at 11 am and has a lunch/anytime menu showcasing Cajun and Creole cuisine. Head here when you are craving Jambalaya or a Po’Boy, and, if you can manage, check out their extensive beer and wine list.
Address: 3014 Granville Street, Vancouver
A local institution for nearly 30 years, Caffé Barney opens at 9 am daily and has both Weekday Brunch (9 am to 4 pm) and lunch (11 am to 4 pm) menus. Known as a favourite haunt for locals, Caffé Barney is the perfect spot to slip into if you are craving an Eggs Benny in South Granville, or some comfort eats.

All-day breakfast? Sold. Paul’s Omelettery is a staple in the ‘hood for classic egg-centric breakfast plates, all affordably priced. From Corned Beef Hash to a hefty Lumberjack, to a dazzling array of omelettes and Bennies, you can satisfy any breakfast whim here, pretty much. Failing that, their all-day lunch menu includes tons of salads, burgers, sandwiches galore, and a build-your-own grilled cheese menu.
