Welcome to Our Friends in Media!
On behalf of the Board of Directors and Members of the South Granville Business Improvement Association (SGBIA), I would like to introduce you to South Granville.
Located mere minutes from downtown Vancouver and easily accessible from all over the Lower Mainland, South Granville is a neighbourhood that should be on every visitors itinerary. This is where Vancouver comes to taste the best, find their style, live well and indulge themselves. South Granville is where you'll find something for everyone-the aspiring interior designer, the power-shopper, the spa lover, the food and wine connoisseur-the list is endless.
For gourmet food lovers, South Granville boasts everything from the latest in cooking utensils through to the finest cuisine available on the West coast at award winning restaurants. Fashion and style gurus-shop for the latest trends in one of our many designer boutiques. Art lovers-browse the city's highest concentration of galleries. Those wanting to feather their nest can feast their eyes on quality antique collections or go contemporary at the many home decor and accessory stores.
The South Granville Business Improvement Association is a self-funded, self-governing, grassroots organization established through the collective will of like-minded businesses operating within the defined geographic area known as Vancouver's South Granville neighbourhood.

FlagWalk - Walk the World!
An international celebration of friendship!
FlagWalk is the creation of a unique walking
route connecting Yaletown and South Granville, two of Vancouver's
truly unique neighbourhoods. The FlagWalk pathway spans a
total distance of 3.74 kms and features the flags of countries
which plan to participate in the 2010 Winter Games. FlagWalk
will become an official wayfinding pedestrian route between
these two areas and downtown Olympic venues during the Olympic
games in February 2010.
FlagWalk is fully funded by the Yaletown and South Granville Business Improvement Associations with generous support from Victorinox Swiss Army, The Vancouver Sun, Flight Centre, and 3M. For more information, see www.flagwalk.ca
Why we did it...
"it came down to this... forget the hype, forget the rings forget the commercial aspects of the Olympics. We were
going to follow our instincts and do what was important to each of us personally — which was to celebrate national pride, friendship,
world peace, inclusiveness, equality, and have fun while we were at it. The IOC did not have a trademark on national pride or
friendship. A phrase was at the top of one of our planning pages “a world of friends is a world of peace”. FlagWalk was born and the tagline is still with us." -- Sharon Townsend, Executive Director, South Granville BIA

The Rare and the Unique on Vancouver's South Granville
Synopsis:
The Vancouver Sun says, "One of the most interesting things you can do... is stroll down what they call gallery row on South Granville in Vancouver."
Over 20 galleries and antique dealers vie to bring the rare and beautiful to the discerning eye of our South Granville shopper. Its a cultural tradition we can point to with pride-weve been Gallery Row since the sixties, and today visitors from around the world enjoy the greatest concentration of art and antique galleries in the city.
Concentrated in a relatively small area, Gallery Row approaches the variety and splendour of a Bazaar, offering cultural discovery with some of Canadas most prestigious art and antique experts. Each gallery and antique dealer has highly trained staff who understands the traditions and techniques associated with the works, be they European, First Nations or Asian.
The variety and quality of work shown in our galleries reflects Vancouvers sophisticated cultural and ethnic diversity. Contemporary photo based Art and BC Impressionism can be enjoyed in the same block. Canada`s most prestigious Auction House is at home here, hosting an annual auction that draws an international clientele. Rare Asian antiques play against modern sculpture or Art Nouveau bronzes. Huge cast resin bowls in vibrant colours live comfortably next to Chinese floor vases. Eighteenth century Russian oil paintings transport the viewer to another world. In short, we live up to our reputation as a cultural destination unique on the West Coast.
In addition to the fine art houses, a number of speciality stores carry unusual furniture, artefacts and carpets. While not strictly speaking galleries, these merchants, scour the globe to find unique items made by traditional craftspeople and artisans. They bridge the gap between gallery and furniture store, providing a depth and richness to shopping for the home that is truly unique in Vancouver.

Legacy Plaques
The South Granville Centennial has come and gone but the history lives on. Before a piece of it disappears, take a walk up the alley on the west side between 11th Avenue and 12th. You will find one of South Granville's original structures – hay loft and all. Rumour has it that illegal immigrants used to hide up in that loft during the 30's.
Did you know that a horse used to be stabled on the rooftop of Douglas Lodge? Find out more
