You know winter is near when it’s cold outside (and probably raining) and all you can think about is comfort food.

There’s no better time to take shelter in one of the city’s coziest spots and enjoy deliciously fresh, locally-made food. Whether you’re on the lookout for a new brunch spot, a vibrant eatery to grab a hearty lunch, or an ambient atmosphere for dinner, you’ll find it in South Granville.

The food scene in this well-appointed Vancouver neighbourhood is off the hook with a diverse lineup of cafes, bistros, and restaurants, that even the most awkward diners (you know a few) will adore. It’s easy to get there as the area is centrally located close to downtown and Granville Island, at the south end of the Granville Bridge.

Here are the best spots for brunch, lunch, and dinner around the South Granville district and our suggestions for some comfy dishes.

Best for brunch:

Heirloom Vegetarian

Before you even enter Heirloom Vegetarian you’ll be amazed by the heritage building it’s inside of. This spot offers a week day and weekend contemporary brunch experience with a creative, socially-conscious menu featuring plenty of vegan and veggie options. Do yourself a favour and try the mushroom benedict with tofu and a side of avocado. It’s divine.

Look no further than Caffé Barney for comforting homemade cuisine. It opened back in 1988 and there’s a reason it’s still a favourite spot for breakfast, brunch, and everything that follows. Try the smoked salmon and eggs benedict on the menu that’s served up on a croissant. It needs no introduction.

Cheesecake Etc.

End the evening on a sweet note after dinner at Vancouver’s late-night cheesecake and jazz cafe. This is the most ambient mecca for cheesecake you may ever visit in Canada – and it’s been around since 1979. Matcha cheesecake with strawberries is a big thing here. Need any more convincing?
