Ongoing Utility Work at the Future South Granville Station
Crews are working on utilities for the future South Granville Station. Over the next few weeks, work will be located on the south side of Hemlock Street between W. Broadway and 11th Avenue, as we focus on preparatory works in advance of relocating permanent utilities. This is the next stage of sequenced work to relocate utilities which began earlier this year and will continue into 2026.
Activities
Utility work activities are from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Traffic restrictions are in place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
What to Expect
Some parking on the west side 2500 block of Hemlock Street will be temporarily restricted.
Intermittent noise from hydrovac work can be expected during the day. We strive to minimize impacts of construction activities on businesses and neighbours. We are regularly monitoring and adapting mitigations as needed.
The west sidewalk on Hemlock Street near the south laneway, towards 10th Avenue will be temporarily closed; pedestrians will be detoured to the east sidewalk.
Flaggers will be on site to help direct vehicles and pedestrians safely.
Traffic
Temporary traffic changes may be in place during the permanent utility work:
Hemlock Street between W 8th Avenue and W 11th Avenue will be reduced to single-lane traffic in each direction during work hours.
W. Broadway will also be reduced to one lane in each direction between Birch and Granville Streets from 7a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 18.
Left turns at the Hemlock Street and W. Broadway intersection will be restricted.
Access to businesses, health services, and residences will be maintained for all activities.
