Single-Use Items Bylaws Come Into Effect
Beginning Jan 1, 2022 the following bans will go into place:
- plastic and compostable plastic bags begins, fees on paper and new reusable shopping bags becomes mandatory. - A $.25 fee for disposable cups must be charged. 
- All foam cups and foam take out containers are also no longer permitted.

Businesses, charities and not-for-profits can download or order printed toolkit materials at vancouver.ca/reduce-single-use to help communicate the by-law requirements to staff and customers.
Toolkit materials include
- a by-law guide, 
- FAQs, posters, 
- till toppers, 
- menu icon, 
- stickers, 
- window decals, and 
- sample flexible plastic straws. 
Toolkits are available in English, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), Punjabi, Tagalog, and Vietnamese.
