Marion Scott Gallery presents Spirit Matter, its first exhibition profile of 2026. Featuring 12 Inuit sculptures created between 1950 and 1980, the exhibition explores the relationship between the materials used by Inuit sculptors and the subjects they choose to depict.
Carved from organic materials such as bone and antler, or shaped from stone, the sculptures reveal forms that feel both connected to—and distinct from—the animals and human figures they portray. Some works explore spiritual themes, including shamans and transforming animals, while others capture everyday moments through clothed human figures and graceful wildlife.
Though modest in scale, each sculpture carries a remarkable sense of presence and energy, offering visitors a thoughtful glimpse into the material and spiritual dimensions of Inuit sculpture.
