Public plazas are places to socialize, relax, play, enjoy a meal or coffee or simply put – experience the true character of a neighbourhood and its people. Only one block away from each other in South Granville, there are two community hubs that served the neighbourhood well during the pandemic and beyond:

South Granville Plaza West, located at Granville Street and West 13th Avenue, and

South Granville Plaza East, located at Granville Street and West 14th Avenue.

 According to the public, the Plazas…

  • promote social connections and get people outside

  • provide a much-needed community gathering space

  • create a vibrant sense of community

  • provide a place to sit and rest

  • Spearheaded by the brilliant architects at HCMA, one of Vancouver's most popular public plazas has recently undergone a stunning transformation!

    The four structures are designed with a semi-covering that is inspired by the lush rainforest that once covered the area. The unique design of the covering not only provides shade and protection from the elements but also adds a touch of natural beauty to the otherwise urban landscape.

    Visitors to the plaza can now enjoy the stunning views of the structure as well as the vibrant atmosphere that surrounds it. Inspired by South Granville’s history, location and former environment, the seating pods are a modular kit of parts

    This innovative installation serves as a testament to Vancouver's commitment to sustainability and creativity, making it a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists alike.

  • The redesign of this public plaza has breathed new life into the area. As a legacy arts district, it was fitting that the design was inspired by art deco elements, using modern colours and shapes to create a visually stunning space.

    The centrepiece of the plaza is a vibrant mural brought to life by the creative geniuses of the WKNDRs. The mural features the quote 'It's the Little Things', which has quickly become a popular spot for selfies and social media posts. The furniture in the plaza has been carefully selected to match the colours and design of the mural, creating a cohesive and visually appealing space.

    The redesign has not only enhanced the aesthetics of the neighbourhood but has also provided a welcoming and comfortable public space for residents and visitors alike to enjoy.
